Why should we be aware of the effects of wireless phone usage? And how can we be safer?

Are we aware of all the facts and figures concerning usage of wireless devices?

We are constantly exposed to radiation, in the broadest sense. Some of it comes from our wireless phones as electromagnetic waves. Not only when using it, also when carrying it around with us; in your pockets or in your bra (not for the fainthearted).

The exact health effects will be known in 10 to 20 years. Research in this area is still in its infant phase as is the advent of the smartphone itself. Long term effects can only be ascertained over time. It might take another 30 years. The long term effect of Smoking took several decades of research and lobbying.

Did you know that it is clearly stated in your manual that you should keep your phone, at a minimum distance of 10mm, from your head and body, at all times?

Let us show you: Go to Phone Settings > General> information> Legal> RF exposure

Several renowned scientists from around the world have warned us of the detrimental long term effects of radio frequency (RF) or electromagnetic fields. Especially active in this area of research are former White House advisor, Oncologist Dr. Devra Davis, Dr. Lennart Hardel and Dr. Olle Johnson.

We are also hearing some serious noise from the tech sector itself. Former Microsoft Canada CEO, Frank Clegg has conveyed that he will testify in a case concerning the tampering with research results by Telecom Stakeholders.

What does science have to say about the dangers of radiation?

Research results are piling up quickly, globally. It will be a matter of time before we have a clear picture of the impact of radiation on our health.

Points in case are the results of various research campaigns that confirm the negative impact of electromagnetic waves (or Radio frequency) on our brains. One statistic is that 3% to 10% of the European Population has linked their health issues to electromagnetic waves. The statistic we arereferring to is a letter sent to 8.000 general practitioners in the Netherlands in 2013.

Where is the Netherlands in all of this?

Is the Netherlands a frontrunner in this race for awareness? Not by a long shot. Countries,  such as France, Belgium and Sweden, have adapted their laws in accordance with scientific research. They have moved swiftly in limiting smartphone use amongst children. The reason is: the currently uncertain effects of electromagnetic waves in the long term. Their policies are based on prevention rather than remedy.

Furthermore the International Agency for Research on Cancer declared, last year, that radiation from wireless phones is at least a Class 2B form of radiation. Meaning  “possibly carcinogenic”. Like David Gee of the EEA (European Health Institution) stated: “How much evidence do you need before you take action?”.

In the Netherlands the discussion usually ends in a yay or nay game. One is not easily convinced that their new best friend (the smartphone) might have some negative effects on their health.

We need scientifically backed data in order to make an impact. Unfortunately much research being done is sponsored by large telecom companies. This severely undermines the quality and objectivity of research.

We could stop the global debate about who is right. It has shown that no one is certain about the effects. The apparent uncertainty justifies that we should apply care and PRECAUTION.

That’s what we believe and we live by; safe use of our wireless phones. Do the same and tell your friends.
